Find the Lilt in Your Life

By Sara Jane

Lilt, what do you understand as being its meaning?

I’ve heard the term the “Irish Lilt” to do with the way they speak but I wasn’t sure of its actual meaning, so I looked it up In The Reader’s Digest Great Illustrated Dictionary:

A light happy tune or song – A cheerful or lively manner of speaking marked by a pleasantly varied cadence – A light springing manner of moving or walking – To say, sing or play in a cheerful rhythmic manner – To speak, sing or play with liveliness or rhythm (from the Middle English “lultent” to sound, sing)

On starting to write this, there are 2 things that jump out at me, first I am part Irish, my Grandfather was born here in England of Irish parents and secondly, I work with Sound Energy in the form of Toning, which for some can sound like singing at times, especially when I tone someone’s name.

The more I work with Sound Energy, the more I see the difference it makes to people’s lives.

I watch them relax, their shoulders drop and there is a glow about their face and a spring in their step that wasn’t there before.

Think about your favourite music, possibly different depending on your mood or how you wish to feel.

Energetic to do the housework to, something you can sing along with, relaxing to help you unwind, fun if you feel like dancing round the house or garden.

Have you found the song that is in you, that is your Lilt?

I have a suggestion for you that may help.

I talk above about Toning someone’s name, have you ever experienced it?

Have you tried it for yourself, I mean saying or toning/singing your own name, it is very powerful and empowering.

If you are feeling uncertain, I suggest starting by saying your name, repeating it over and over. Say it with Love, Caring, Fun, Laughter, Joy, Happiness, allow the tone of your voice to change, smile and let go of self-consciousness.

Become comfortable with saying your name and slowly allow a lilt in, a little like a spring in your step, letting it build until you are toning/singing your name.

Use your first name and I suggest if you have changed your name you also bring in that name as well.

Very briefly the reason I suggest this is because although I was Christened Sara Jane, I was always Jane as a young child and I changed it to Sara.

When I do this for myself and I do, I always do a mix of Sara, Jane, Sara Jane, Jane Sara, honouring the whole of me, me of every age.

For me my song, my lilt is my name, it has taken time but I feel my life has been, is being, enriched by it.

I hope you will try this, give it time and find your Lilt, the song that will light up your life.
