First ~ Winner ~ Leader
By Sara Jane
What does the word First mean to you?
Is it being first, taking the first step, your first breath, the first time you did anything?
What does Winner mean to you?
Is it the person who won the competition, the prize, the most votes or is it just about achieving?
What does being a Leader mean to you?
Is it the person at the front, the person who gives orders, the person who takes control?
There may be other things that you can think of for each of these.
How about being the first to step forward to assist a person or animal who is struggling.
The first in your family or group of friends, who learns to say NO, that’s not for me, rather than going along with things that aren’t comfortable to you.
The first to stand up and say I don’t agree with you.
The first to share your story in a group.
The First to put yourself first, to take care of yourself so that you can be there for others.
First is so much more than Winning.
What is a winner? Is it really the person or group that comes first?
You are a winner.
Recently I heard Bo Eason share about this and I loved the way he put it.
“We are all winners, that is how we are here.
The sperm that was first to the egg, which created the embryo, which grew into us.”
We made it into the world, we have a roof over our heads, food on our table, clothes on our backs.
We can choose, we have choices.
The job you are in, how many people applied for it, yet you got it.
Your relationships and friendships and so much more.
Think about some of the reality TV programs like X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent, it is not always the winner that goes on to achieve most.
Look at what some of them have achieved, Susan Boyle came second, so did Olly Murs. Stacey Solomon came 3rd & Rylan Clark came 5th, yet their lives have changed and they are all winners.
Leaders, who do you consider to be a true leader?
Is it always the person at the front?
Is it the person who gives orders or leads by example?
In outdoor trekking, it is likely to be the person who leads from behind, the person who makes sure everyone is OK and safe.
To me a true leader is someone who leads by example, who helps others to grow, to become the best they can be and then go on to help others to achieve.
Leaders create leaders who create leaders.
By being first in your life, by considering yourself, your growth, sharing your gifts, you can help and support more fully those around you, creating winners and leaders.
